iOS 14.2

Users on Apple Developer forums and (Reddit) websites have extensively complained that iOS 14.2 is causing serious battery drain issues.

Symptoms of the problem include rapid draining of the battery and charging times longer than usual. Some users complained that their devices lose more than 50 percent of the charge in less than 30 minutes. Then they see significant drops of about 5 percent within 5 minutes of normal use.

The problem appears to be software related; Because many users have noticed that the battery power level remains at a high level for some time before the rapid decline, the power level reaches a surprisingly higher percentage after restarting the devices.

It seems that all affected iPhones are old versions, such as iPhone 10S, iPhone 7, iPhone 6s, and the first generation iPhone SE. And it seems that the 2018 version of the iPad Pro tablet running iOS 14.2 has also been affected.

It is reported that Apple launched iOS 14.2 and iPadOS 14.2 after only two weeks of iOS 14.1 and iPad 14.1, which is the second update after the release of the final version of iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 to the general public last September.

No new reports indicate that the battery problem has been fixed in the iOS 14.2.1 version, which was launched about two weeks ago to address the lock screen issues that became unresponsive in the new iPhone 12 mini.

Apple said: The iOS 14.2.1 system will fix issues related to not receiving some MMS messages and address sound quality issues with some hearing aid made for use with iPhones.

It is reported that Apple has already launched a public beta version of iOS 14.3 and iPad 14.3, so Apple may fix the problem with this update. The third update for iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 provides support for Apple ProRAW and improvements in the applications: Home, Health, and Weather.
